# Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

## What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a second layer of security to your Metaintro account. Even if someone knows your password, they cannot sign in without also having access to your authenticator app. This protects your account from phishing attacks, credential stuffing, and data breaches on other services where you may have reused a password.

## Setting Up 2FA

To enable 2FA on your Metaintro account:

1. Open your **Account Settings** from the top-right menu.
2. Navigate to the **Security** tab.
3. Click **Enable Two-Factor Authentication**.
4. Scan the QR code using your preferred authenticator app. Metaintro supports any TOTP-compatible app, including **Google Authenticator**, **Authy**, and **1Password**.
5. Enter the 6-digit code displayed in your app to confirm the setup.
6. Save your backup codes in a secure location.

Once enabled, you will be asked for a verification code each time you sign in.

### Can't scan the QR code?

If your device camera is not cooperating, click **Enter code manually** below the QR code. This reveals a text key you can type directly into your authenticator app.

## Backup Codes

When you enable 2FA, Metaintro generates 10 one-time backup codes. Each code can only be used once, so treat them like spare keys -- store them in a password manager, a printed document in a safe place, or another secure location that is not your phone.

If you run low on codes or think they may have been compromised, you can regenerate a new set at any time from the **Security** settings page. Regenerating invalidates all previous codes immediately.

## Disabling 2FA

If you need to turn off 2FA:

1. Go to **Account Settings > Security**.
2. Click **Disable Two-Factor Authentication**.
3. Confirm with your current authenticator code or a backup code.

Note: if your organization requires 2FA, you will not be able to disable it while you are a member of that workspace.

## Lost Your Phone?

If you no longer have access to your authenticator app, use one of your backup codes to sign in. On the 2FA verification screen, click **Use a backup code** and enter one of your saved codes.

If you have also lost your backup codes, contact Metaintro support. Be prepared to verify your identity using the email address on your account and other account details.

## Organization-Wide 2FA Requirements

If you are an organization admin, you can enforce 2FA for your entire team:

1. Open your **Organization Settings**.
2. Go to the **Security** tab.
3. Toggle **Require 2FA for all members**.

Once enabled, any team member who has not set up 2FA will be prompted to do so before they can access the organization workspace. New members will also be required to complete 2FA setup before joining.

## Why This Matters

Job searching involves sharing sensitive personal and professional information. Your Metaintro account may contain your resume, application history, and connections to recruiters. Protecting that data with 2FA is one of the most effective steps you can take to secure your career profile.
