A whole lot of deserted office spaces and business owners twiddling their thumbs. But don't hang up your business suit just yet. In a bold move that might just re-ignite San Francisco's business core, [Mayor Daniel Lurie](https://www.sf.gov/profile--daniel-lurie) is pushing to get city workers back in the office by April 28th. This isn't just about getting government employees in the same space as their computers. No, this is about firing up the local economy one lunchtime gyro at a time. Just ask Dennis Yilmaz of Gyro King, who recalls the good ol' days when lunch hours were more crowded than the Golden Gate Bridge on a sunny Saturday. Currently, about 70% of city workers have braved their commutes back to office life. The hope is that as the rest ditch their home offices, the ripple effect will pave the way for private sector employees to return, too. They believe the return of office workers will breathe life back into the downtown area, benefitting everything from coffee stands to cocktail bars. As of now, the city has seen 43% of its workforce back in office environments. The buzz is that this number could significantly climb if private companies take their lead from the city’s push. With more people returning, those BART seats might just become as coveted as a good sourdough recipe during lockdowns. Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom has added some state flair to the mix by ordering state agency workers to return to offices four days a week by July 1st. Seems like California is set to go from WFH (work from home) to WTF (work the floor). If all goes according to plan, expect to see more business lunches, impromptu coffee meetings, and the sweet symphony of clacking heels and keyboard taps ringing through the streets of San Francisco.
